  • Heavy Gear: 100 Hilux vans and 600 motorcycles for the troops.
  • Commitment: Gov. Alia prioritizes safety for Benue’s progress.
  • Extra Support: 5,000 more guards on the way, bringing the total to 10,000!

The Arrival of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards

Forget about playing defense – Benue is going on the offensive! Governor Hyacinth Alia officially launched the Benue State Civil Protection Guards (BSCPG), a 5,000-strong security force. That’s right, 5,000 new boots on the ground, all geared up to protect the state. This isn’t some small-time operation; this is a major investment in the safety and security of Benue citizens.

The BSCPG isn’t just a bunch of folks thrown together; they’re a carefully assembled team designed to work alongside existing security agencies. They will be comparing notes and synergising with the conventional forces to make sure that no stone is left unturned when it comes to security.

Operation Anyam Nyor: The Joint Task Force is Here

But wait, there’s more! Gov. Alia didn’t stop at just one new security outfit. He also unveiled “Operation Anyam Nyor,” a Joint Security Task Force. This isn’t just a local effort; it’s a massive collaboration involving the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

This is the biggest and most comprehensive security collaboration the state has ever seen. With personnel deployed across all local government areas, this means that every corner of Benue will have the eyes and ears of the joint security forces. They’re not messing about!

Gearing Up for Action

What’s a security force without the proper gear? Gov. Alia didn’t hold back, donating 100 Hilux security vans and 600 special combatant motorcycles. These aren’t your average vehicles; they’re built for action, ensuring that the BSCPG and the Joint Security Task Force can respond quickly and effectively to any threat.

Why this Matters for Benue

Governor Alia has made it clear that security is his top priority. He understands that for any meaningful development to occur, the people need to feel safe. This strategic investment is designed to create an environment where people can farm, work, and live without fear. He stated that these measures were put in place in order to combat criminality and create a safe environment where all the people of Benue can thrive.

And it doesn’t stop there. In the future, another 5,000 guards will be added to the force, making it a whopping 10,000 total. This is more than just a security boost; it’s a promise that the state is serious about protecting its people.

Support from All Sides

The launch of these security initiatives hasn’t gone unnoticed. President Bola Tinubu has shown unwavering support for Governor Alia’s administration, especially in its security efforts. The Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatyse, and the Catholic Bishop of the Katsina-Ala Diocese, Most Rev. Isaac Dugu, have also been recognised for their dedication to peace-building in the state. The Northern Governors Forum also voiced their support and other state governors also attended the launch.

The recruitment of the BSCPG members has been called not for political reasons by Prof. James Ayatse, and urged the officers to only operate within their mandate.

Looking Ahead

With a new security force, a joint task force, and the support of the state, Benue is showing a united front against insecurity. All this is in preparation for the coming of the state police, which means that Benue is ahead of other states in the federation. The message is clear: Benue is getting serious about security, and that is a win for everyone.
