Controversy Surrounding a Tragic Demise Spurs Lagos State Government to Launch Coroner’s Inquest

Lagos State, Nigeria – The recent passing of a notable individual has ignited a firestorm of debate, prompting the Lagos State Government to initiate a comprehensive coroner’s inquest.

Commencing on October 13, this significant inquiry is currently unfolding within the confines of the Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State. At the center of this inquiry is Joseph, who took the stand to shed light on the complex circumstances surrounding his son’s life and untimely death.

During his testimony, Joseph disclosed that he and his son had shared a home for a period spanning 18 years. However, he was unable to provide the exact address where his late son resided with the enigmatic figure known as Marley. According to Joseph, his son chose to leave their shared home once he reached the legal age of consent, embarking on his own musical career while simultaneously supporting Marley.

Joseph revealed that he had encountered his son just three days prior to his tragic demise. A poignant moment in his testimony was when he spoke of seeing an image of his son’s casket, which was a deeply emotional experience.

As Joseph recounted, his son had given him the assurance that he could manage any disputes that may have arisen with Marley. This assurance notwithstanding, Joseph shared that his son’s properties were under the control of his mother-in-law, frequently conveying to him the intricacies of these holdings in the custody of his spouse’s family.

In a surprising turn, Joseph made a startling claim, suggesting that Mohbad’s wife had allegedly tampered with his meals by introducing sleeping pills during their cohabitation with Marley. The inquest continues to delve into these intricate details, aiming to provide clarity and closure regarding this perplexing and somber incident.

Joseph Aloba, the grieving father of the late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, is seeking to bring clarity to the paternity of his deceased child’s son, Liam, through a Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test. The decision stems from a heated controversy among Nigerians regarding the child’s parentage, as well as other surrounding issues between the former Marlian singer and his wife.

In an exclusive interview with Stams TV on Wednesday, Joseph Aloba highlighted the necessity of conducting the DNA test in his presence. He expressed the urgency to put an end to the speculations and rumors surrounding the paternity of Liam. Aloba also sought to dispel misinformation circulating on social media, particularly in response to a post made by popular skit maker OGBCultist, believed to be a friend of Mohbad.

Aloba stressed the importance of ensuring the accuracy of the DNA test results and proposed that the test be carried out at two different hospitals. According to him, this dual approach would contribute to establishing the truth and putting an end to the lingering doubts.

“Concerning the DNA test, it’s a must they do it. Nigerians are demanding it. I heard rumors that they did it, but no matter what, I’m Mohbad’s father, so I’ll give consent to the DNA test or send anyone who can represent me during the test if I’m not there to know how they’ll do it. And even when they want to do it, it should be done in two different places so we can be very sure and know the truth,” Aloba remarked during the interview.

Aloba, who hails from Ikere Ekiti, also shed light on the cultural perspective, emphasizing that in his hometown, they do not accept “bastards.” However, he expressed that it would bring him joy if Liam was indeed Mohbad’s child, recalling a poignant moment three days before Mohbad’s untimely death when the singer shared a meal with him and handed over Liam for a heartfelt exchange.

In addition to the paternity concerns, Aloba revealed his eagerness for the police investigation process to conclude swiftly. He hoped that once the investigation was completed, the burial rites for his late child could proceed without further delay.

“I will call the police boss to know if it is possible for us to bury him. In fact, many have complained of seeing Mohbad’s ghost, and this is only possible because he has not been buried. I would really be glad that this is looked into as early as possible,” Aloba stated.

MohBad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, prompting nationwide controversies and protests. Naira Marley, Mohbad’s former label boss, and Sam Larry, his associate, were among the five prime suspects named in the ongoing investigation. The circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death have captivated the public’s attention, making the DNA test and the subsequent police investigation crucial elements in resolving the complex situation.

In a recent revelation by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, it has been disclosed that the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, experienced vomiting and developed goosebumps following a series of three injections administered by nurse Feyisayo Ogedemgbe on September 12, 2023.

The disclosure was made during a press briefing held on Friday at the state Command headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, where Owohunwa presented preliminary findings from the ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s tragic demise.

CP Owohunwa stated that a total of 26 witnesses, including Mohbad’s immediate family members such as his father, mother, sisters, brother, wife, and manager, were interrogated in the course of the investigation.

Mohbad was reportedly brought to the hospital already deceased on September 12, with attending doctors certifying his death on the same day. According to the Commissioner, the nurse, Feyisayo Ogedemgbe, was invited by Mohbad’s friend, Ayobami Sodiq (aka Spending), to administer three injections at the singer’s residence. These injections are believed to have triggered a sequence of reactions that ultimately led to Mohbad’s untimely death.

Owohunwa explicitly mentioned that Mohbad began vomiting and developed goosebumps shortly after receiving the injections.

Renowned Nigerian musician, Azeez Fashola, professionally known as Naira Marley, has declared his readiness to return to Nigeria to address allegations surrounding his involvement in the tragic death of his former label signee, Mohbad. Naira Marley made this statement during an exclusive interview with social media influencer Reno Omokri on Wednesday.

The untimely demise of Mohbad sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music industry, sparking a wave of social media outrage. Several videos surfaced posthumously, wherein the late singer accused Naira Marley of orchestrating a brutal assault against him.

In his first public interview since the controversy erupted, Naira Marley vehemently denied any wrongdoing and lamented the perceived media bias against him. The singer emphasized his willingness to return to Nigeria to cooperate with law enforcement, provided that the police can guarantee his safety.

During the interview, Naira Marley revealed distressing information about Mohbad’s mental health, claiming that the late artist had struggled with suicidal thoughts. He recounted a particular incident while he was in the United States when he received a call from Mohbad’s girlfriend, who reported that the singer had locked himself in a bathroom and expressed intentions of self-harm.

Naira Marley shared the details of the conversation he had with Mohbad, stating, “I was so concerned, so I called him to try to give him peace of mind. If your family is stressing you out, leave. If your family is stressing you out, just tell them to chill. You can do what you want to do. Do not stress yourself. If you kill yourself now, what do you want people to say?”

In the recorded conversation, Naira Marley can be heard trying to understand Mohbad’s emotional state and offering support. The singer’s intention, he claims, was to prevent a potential tragedy.

The interview has added a new dimension to the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death, shedding light on the complex relationship between the two artists and the challenges Mohbad may have faced during his career.

As Naira Marley awaits assurances of his safety from Nigerian authorities, the public continues to closely follow developments in this high-profile case, with many hoping for a fair and thorough investigation that will provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s tragic passing.
