The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, revealed that individuals suspected of assaulting Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero have been apprehended.

Recalling the incident when Ajaero was attacked in Owerri during a protest over unpaid salaries on November 1, the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) called for a nationwide strike, demanding the arrest of the attackers and their backers.

As the strike began, impacting economic activities, Ribadu, through a statement from the Office of the National Security Adviser, implored organized labor to end the nationwide strike. He expressed concern about its effects on ordinary Nigerians and its potential impact on economic security.

Ribadu condemned the attack on Ajaero, emphasizing that it went against the principles of freedom of association and expression endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration. The NSA assured the public that thorough investigations were underway, and arrests had already been made in connection with the assault. The findings of the investigation will be shared with the public once concluded.

In the statement, Ribadu affirmed the Federal Government’s stance against such acts, underscoring its commitment to upholding the rule of law. He urged the labor unions to consider the potential repercussions of the strike on the nation’s well-being.
