In a recent interview with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), former President Muhammadu Buhari hinted that a powerful political group, often referred to as a “cabal,” may have taken control during his eight-year administration.

A cabal is a group that manipulates political affairs to benefit themselves, often at the expense of the public. Buhari acknowledged the possibility of losing control to such a group, addressing concerns that were initially raised by his wife, Aisha Buhari, in 2016.

When questioned about the influence of a cabal during the NTA interview, Buhari admitted, “it must have been.” However, he emphasized that those who break the law should not be allowed to go unpunished.

Reflecting on his presidency, Buhari stated, “God gave me the opportunity to serve my country, but I did my best. Whether my best was sufficient, I leave for people to judge.”

Discussing his priorities as president, Buhari highlighted that his focus was primarily on addressing internal challenges, particularly the security of the nation. He clarified that he deliberately avoided engaging in foreign matters to concentrate on domestic issues.

Buhari also explained his decision not to accumulate wealth during his leadership, stating that this choice allowed him to live in peace after leaving office. He asserted that some individuals tried to set traps for him with tempting opportunities, but he avoided them to prevent compromising the nation’s interests.

In summary, Buhari’s recent remarks shed light on the challenges he faced during his presidency, suggesting the potential influence of a powerful group and emphasizing his commitment to serving the country to the best of his ability.
