Kogi Poll Clash: Many Injured in Gun Duel

Tensions escalated in Idah Local Government area as supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) engaged in a fierce gun battle on Wednesday. The violent clash, occurring ahead of the state’s upcoming governorship election, resulted in numerous injuries and the destruction of vehicles.

 

In the aftermath, individuals, including a police officer, sustained bullet wounds, further highlighting the intensity of the confrontation. Kogi State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP William Aya, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Thursday.

 

According to Aya, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand Onuoha, has promptly ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. In condemning the violence, CP Onuoha emphasized that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department has been assigned to lead the investigations.

 

“The CP reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to continue engaging critical stakeholders in Election Security Management to ensure a secure environment for the electoral process,” the statement read.

 

The Police Command issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers, especially in anticipation of the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State. Emphasizing the commitment to providing a level playing ground for all political parties during campaigns, rallies, and other electoral activities, the Command underscored its determination to maintain law and order.
