In a proactive move to enhance security and curb criminal activities in Kwara State, the Nigerian Army has officially initiated Operation Still Water III. The military exercise is concentrated in parts of the Ifelodun local government, particularly in Oro Ago and adjoining areas. This strategic operation, spearheaded by troops from the 22 Brigade, is aimed at flushing out criminal elements and reinforcing the safety of lives and properties in the region.

The announcement came through a government house statement signed by Modupe Joel, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, and made available to the press on Thursday. Codenamed Operation Still Water III, this initiative underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Army to address security challenges not only in Kwara State but also beyond.

During the flag-off ceremony held in Oro Ago, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, represented by Deputy Governor Mr. Kayode Alabi, implored traditional rulers and stakeholders to collaborate with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. The governor emphasized the importance of providing timely information to facilitate the agencies’ constitutional responsibilities of safeguarding citizens.

Governor Abdulrazaq expressed confidence in the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Army, sister services, and other security agencies. He highlighted the necessity of meeting the expectations of Nigerians in tackling security challenges. The governor acknowledged the synergy among security forces in addressing various violent crimes, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping.

Commending the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for his visionary leadership, Governor Abdulrazaq appreciated Major General B.A. Alabi, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, for overseeing the exercise. He also recognized the support of Brigadier General Adebayo Babalola, the Commander 22 Brigade Ilorin, in sustaining peace and stability in Kwara State.

Brigadier General Babalola, the Brigade Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade Sobi, emphasized that Exercise Still Water aims to ensure a peaceful, stable, and secure environment. This, he stated, is particularly crucial for the upcoming festive seasons and to enable economic activities to thrive without fear and panic.

Issuing a stern warning to criminals, General Babalola urged them to steer clear of Kwara State. Simultaneously, he sought the cooperation of the people, encouraging them to provide essential information that would aid in the expulsion of criminals from the state. The Operation Still Water III represents a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Army and the community to fortify security and promote a safe living environment for the residents of Kwara State.
